Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0second edition of SF(a) \u2013 Society. Film. Architecture<\/strong>\u00a0was held in\u00a0Ia\u0219i, June\u2013July 2023<\/strong>, continuing the transdisciplinary exploration of architecture through the lens of science-fiction cinema. After the inaugural edition in 2022, which established the workshop as an innovative space for collaborative learning, Season 2 expanded its scope and audience. The chosen film,\u00a0\u00a0Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927)<\/strong>, served as entry points for critical reflection on\u00a0 Modernism<\/strong>, the major architectural paradigm that shaped the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locations & Partners<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Activities were organised at the \u201cG.M. Cantacuzino\u201d Faculty of Architecture (TUIASI)<\/strong> and FABLAB Ia\u0219i<\/strong>, in partnership with the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design (UNAGE), ASAI \u2013 the Student Association of Architects in Ia\u0219i, and OAR Ia\u0219i.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Season 2 registered a significant growth in participation compared to the first edition: 65 students and graduates<\/strong> from architecture, visual arts and design, and literature, together with young architects in training. The diversity of participants encouraged collaborative exchanges across disciplines and stimulated new approaches to film-based architectural critique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Programme & Activities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The programme was built around four main types of activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Film screenings & debates<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 opening with discussions on architecture as a narrative tool;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Public lectures<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 delivered by guests from architecture, visual culture, and literature, exploring the social, cultural, and ideological dimensions of Modernism and Postmodernism;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Workshops & tutorials<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 practical sessions on graphic representation using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, where students produced\u00a0alternative posters<\/strong>\u00a0interpreting cinematic architectures;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Final exhibition & round-table<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 showcasing the posters and critical reflections, with debates on the outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Exhibition & Results<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The creative workshops resulted in a series of alternative posters<\/strong>, exhibited both at the Faculty of Architecture and later at FABLAB Ia\u0219i in an itinerant format. The works critically reinterpreted the imagery of Blade Runner<\/em> and Metropolis<\/em>, highlighting their architectural and ideological dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Dissemination & Impact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Season 2 consolidated SF(a)\u2019s visibility beyond the local context. Results were presented in international conferences<\/strong>(UN-DISCIPLINARY, Aalborg; QUESTIONS, Cluj), round-tables<\/strong> (InterdisciplinARH, Ia\u0219i), and exhibitions<\/strong> (MUST \u2013 Architects in the Community, Ia\u0219i; InterdisciplinARH, Ia\u0219i). The itinerant exhibition of Season 2 posters was also showcased in August 2023 at FABLAB Ia\u0219i.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Core Vision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Season 2 questioned how architecture reflects and constructs collective futures: the utopian promises of Modernism. The edition reinforced SF(a)\u2019s role as a\u00a0laboratory of critical pedagogy<\/strong>, where cinema becomes a tool to decode architectural narratives and to foster creative, collaborative, and analytical skills among students and young practitioners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
